This 18-month Postdoctoral Scientist position, with a possibility of extension, offers a unique opportunity to join a large pharmaceutical company in a highly cross-functional role that can serve as preparation for a future career in industry. You will contribute to the final implementation and validation of novel workflows for engineering, high-throughput production, and quality assessment of large panels of therapeutic multi-specific antibody formats.
The position is anchored in Antibody Technology at Servier Symphogen and forms part of a cross-functional research project involving the Cancer Cell Biology, Protein Purification and Analytical Development departments.
Objective
The aim of the project is to address some of the challenges associated with multi-specific antibody production—such as correct chain assembly, purity, yield, and product quality—that arise as antibody architectures become increasingly complex. The project will build on existing bispecific antibody production workflows established at Servier Symphogen, with emphasis on optimizing format-specific challenges, automating workflows, increasing protein expression titers, and finalizing quality assessment workflows in collaboration with Analytical Development and external CROs.
You will work closely with scientists and technicians across Antibody Technology, Cancer Cell Biology, Protein Purification and Analytical Development, as well as automation specialists. Some travelling activity is expected to attend conferences, and participation in Servier’s ShineDoc career development community in Paris.
Areas of responsibility
Specifically, the position is envisioned to focus on high-throughput production of multi-specific therapeutic antibody formats, and testing and optimizing current or novel methods to ensure high quality and reproducibility. The following are in scope:
- Design challenging antibody formats for platform testing and validation.
- Optimize protein expression yields by testing alternative expression systems.
- Contribute to workflow automation in collaboration with automation specialists.
- Optimize purification and quality assessment in collaboration with Protein Purification and Analytical Development departments and external CROs.
- Present findings internally and, where appropriate, through scientific presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
A substantial budget is already allocated for CRO work to expedite the project and implementation phase.
Qualifications
You hold a PhD or expect to soon obtain your PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry, molecular biology, protein science, pharmaceutical sciences, or a related discipline, with strong experimental experience in gene design and production of recombinant proteins and antibodies. You are scientifically curious, structured, and motivated by interdisciplinary research.
Preferred qualifications
- Hands-on experience with antibody design engineering, expression, purification and analytics is highly desirable.
- Strong interest in working at the interface of antibody engineering, protein production, purification, analytical characterization, and automation.
- A collaborative mindset with the ability to independently design experiments and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary research teams and CROs.
- Experience handling complex datasets, DNA sequence analysis, and expression vector design, including coordination of gene synthesis with CROs.
- The ability to communicate complex scientific findings clearly in written and spoken English.
- A resilient, creative, and positive mindset with the ability to identify and communicate novel solutions.
It is of advantage, if you have:
- Interest or experience in scripting (e.g., Python, R) for data analysis or automation of data management processes.
- Experience with multi-specific antibodies, high-throughput experimentation, or laboratory automation.
- Experience with flow cytometry, Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR) or Bio-Layer Interferometry (BLI) for characterization of binding activity and binding kinetics
We offer
- Competitive salary based on qualifications and flexible working hours.
- A research project with a clear focus on innovation and workflow development, for the future benefit of patients.
- Strong cross-functional teamwork and opportunities for scientific and professional development.
- A creative, goal-oriented and value-based working environment.
